“Learning networks in pediatric heart failure and transplantation” was published June 17, 2021 in Pediatric Transplantation. This ACTION publication defines “learning networks” and how they’re different from traditional clinical research collaboratives. The authors highlight exemplary learning networks in the field of pediatric heart failure and transplantation, with particular attention given to ACTION.
ACTION’s mission, goals, and organization structure are described, as well as these recent ACTION initiatives:
- Practice harmonization protocols
- ABCDs of stroke reduction
- ACTION data to support the recent US Food and Drug Administration approval of newer VAD for pediatric patients (Such as Abbott’s HeartMate)
Ultimately, learning networks drive clinical improvement. ACTION’s contributions in research, QI projects, PROs, and education have led to rapid change in practice—and we’re not slowing down anytime soon!
