Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed the Holiday Season and are energized for a new year! We wrapped 2023 with the launch of several exciting projects, such as the HeartMate 3TM Discharge Bundle and Heart Healthy Video Series, we continued access to the Berlin Heart Active Driver under the extended trial, and we published new ACTION research. Looking ahead this year we have been meeting individually with all ACTION sites to ensure successful engagement in ACTION and highlight membership benefits for each center. We are excited to expand quality improvement, education, research, and best practice initiatives across the network, as well as engage with Global centers and increase advocacy efforts in
the pediatric heart failure space. Reach out with any new ideas for the year ahead. Thank you for your continued efforts! Regards,

Heart Healthy Video Series
Brought to you by the ACTION team, starring Justine Shertzer, a pediatric exercise physiologist and a member of ACTION, and Julian Lerner, an actor, singer, musician, and ACTION Ambassador. These videos are intended to be used by both healthy kids and heart patients, under the advisement of their care team. Have your patients head over to the MyACTIONEducation.org Patient and Families’ Health and Wellness > Fitness section to see all the videos. Follow along with these
exercises and do them in sets for extra heart health benefits!
The IDECIDE pilot project has been completed!
The IDecide VAD decision aid booklet is available for use in English and Spanish. It was designed for pediatric patients and their families to help them better understand VADs and determine which one is right for their unique situation. Contact us for any questions or feedback.
Quality Improvement Updates
Data as of January 11, 2024
147 HeartMate 3TM and Berlin Heart patients have been entered in the De-Escalation Project. 90 of the 147 patients achieved de-escalation before either 1. activation for transplant, 2. completing hospital course to discharge, or 3. receiving their transplant. Achieving de-escalation means the patient was extubated, off inotropes, ambulating or age equivalent, and stated feeds. This project is designed to encourage patient stability prior to transplant. It is also an effort to encourage discharge of patients on HeartMate 3TM.
ACTION Providers – We have everything you need in our NEW Discharge Bundle for educating HeartMate 3TM Patients and families, prepping for discharge, and returning patients to their daily lives, including a community packet, travel packet, and back-to-school packet. All materials are available on the Provider side of MyActionEducation.org
